Did you know you needed a license in order to get a certificate, which signifies you're married? There's a process you need to go through in order to make it official. Many people get their license and then have an officiant in a public setting or a priest perform the ceremony and then that priest/officiant will need to sign that paper that day and mail it in. Or you can just knock it all out at the same time and get your license and certificate done at the same time at the San Diego Court House.

What you'll need for court ceremony:
  • Driver's License or form of valid government ID for you and your future spouse
  • Appointment. Call them to seal the date and time!
  • $70 for license and $88 for certificate
We did the courthouse ceremony at 1600 Pacific Highway. They give you an option to do it inside or outside but since we're in San Diego and it was a beautiful day, we decided to do it outside.

Picture of outdoor court house ceremony with appointed judge and family as witnesses (limit up to 6 guests). This is where they marry you outside. You can see the view of the marina.

Some people get a court ceremony done to get the paper work over with and then have a grand ceremony with friends and more family later. However, having a court ceremony in the day and then a night reception for other friends and family is a great way to make it meaningful
