Fished a couple of croakers on OB Pier - July 9, 2012

We went fishing on the Ocean Beach Pier earlier this week and had a very successful night. My husband caught a leopard shark, sting ray and a croaker fish. I caught one croaker fish as well.

Here's how they looked like.

Right when we got home, my husband beheaded, descaled and gutted the fishes. I mixed flour, garlic powder and season salt and batter the fish in it. Then we pan fried it in vegetable oil. We ate it just like that. It was fresh and delicious. Watch out for bones. I had one caught in my throat.

Fishing on the Ocean Beach (OB) Pier

We picked up a new hobby after we moved to OB. It's fishing! We found out that you don't need a fishing license to fish on the pier so we bought a couple of fishing hooks and met with our buddy who is the expert in fishing. On our first trip, we caught a leopard shark and my husband's friends caught a sting ray and guitar fish. See the picture of the guitar fish below.

Getting married at the San Diego Courthouse - outdoor ceremony is a great option

Did you know you needed a license in order to get a certificate, which signifies you're married? There's a process you need to go through in order to make it official. Many people get their license and then have an officiant in a public setting or a priest perform the ceremony and then that priest/officiant will need to sign that paper that day and mail it in. Private beach on Sunset Cliffs

There's a little private beach area near that cliffs where you can relax with your loved ones. Although the space is small, it is a great secret place to visit. Ocean Beach Chili Cook-Off June 23, 2012 Pictures on a nice day

June 26, 2012
The Ocean Beach Chili Cook Off took place over the weekend and the day was beautiful. There were 28 on our list but many cancelled or ran out of chili early. I personally voted for #17 which had venison in their chili.



We got to the line early at 10AM. Here were the prices. We both got the master tasters to try all of the chilis.


At 10AM, vendors were just starting to set up. It was a wonderful day.


We went back to the chili section to try more chili and it got crowded! We shouldn't have left...

June 17, 2012 - Not a June Gloom day in Ocean Beach

I don't work today because it's Saturday so I took our chow chow to the dog park in Ocean Beach. He got tired after 20 minutes of playing with other dogs. On our drive back home from the park, I was so happy it turned out to be such a great morning. Happy non-June Gloom day Ocean Beach! Come out and play everyone!

Chili Cook Off June 23, 2012 (OB)

It's another June Gloom day and as I was driving home from work I see the banner about the Chili Cook-Off taking place in a couple of weeks on June 23, 2012. It is one of the biggest events in OB. Even though it was a gloomy day, seeing this sign cheered me up. You get to be the judge of who makes the best chili while listening to bands play on 6 different stages. Come to OB on Newport Ave. and check it out if you haven't before. It's happening in a couple of weeks from today.

Saving money by moving to Ocean Beach

My fiance and I recently moved to Ocean Beach from Pacific Beach and shacking up is really helping us save money for the wedding. Our new place is also very small so we had to sell some stuff and buy a few new items to maximize our space with storage.

Overall, we put out $40 for having to buy new furniture. That's not bad. I sold some stuff so we used that money to buy what we really need. Here's our spreadsheet:
