When I first started running on the treadmill, I started swelling a lot. At first I was scared that maybe I had a health condition that I didn't know about but then I realized it's because my heart is pumping the hardest it ever has in the last 5 years. And this hard pumping causes your body to swell.

It also discouraged me at first. Usually after I run for a mile or two, I would look at the gym mirror immediately after and think I look fat and that the last month of running on the treadmill did no good. You can't think like that.

Don't let the swelling discourage you because your body is just doing its work after working out. When you look in the mirror, just think that you worked hard and it's going to pay off.

As a matter of fact, I didn't really notice being thinner until 3 months later. It took my body a long time to show its work. Muscle also weighs more than fat so you won't see yourself being thinner by looking at the scale. When I finally lost 5 lbs after 6 months of working out, people thought I lost 15 lbs because I looked that much thinner. Like many people, I gain muscle when I start working out.
